Blocks. Hurdles. Obstacles.
We all face them, all have to deal with them, and probably all want to
metaphorically punch them in the face.
But it’s not enough to want to beat something. Sometimes you need to get up and do something
about it.
I don’t have all the answers, which is where others come
in. And obviously different things will
work for different people, which is why I have to ask as many people as
possible what it is that works for them.
Current thing on my mind?
Writer’s block. That annoying
thing that keeps you from finishing a paper, a story, an article, whatever it
is. It’s in the way.
Here are some things that people have told me work for them:
Relocate. Go to a
place where you aren’t used to working, and just start writing. Write until your brain turns to mush, then go
home. Look at what you’ve done the next
day.
Make a writing playlist.
Maybe it’s a list that always gets you psyched to work, or maybe it’s a
bunch of songs that you really hate, which is why you’re distracting yourself
from them by writing. Play it.
Start making an outline.
Maybe it’s an outline of everything you know you want to include in an
essay, or maybe it’s the most thorough character sketch you’ve ever seen.
Walk away. Don’t look
at it for a while. Just take a step back
and do something else. It’s probably
best if this is some other kind of work, because once you get started doing
something fun, you won’t want to stop.
That's all I've got for now; still waiting for other people's responses!
